Dinner With Friends: GREY x The Lucky Bee

In late July, Jason hosted the second dinner in the GREY Jason Wu Dinner Series, in collaboration with chef Matty Bennett of The Lucky Bee in New York City. The fare was inspired by spicy, Thai street flavors and Jason served up signature cocktails from behind the bar.

In the rare moments when Jason isn’t designing, his favorite activity is entertaining and hosting friends. The GREY Dinner Series gives Jason the opportunity to enjoy the less serious side of fashion, share his love for entertaining and introduce the GREY Jason Wu collection and lifestyle to new friends. GREY girls including Hilary Rhoda, Cleo Wade, Sophie Auster, and Skye Daru joined Jason at The Lucky Bee, a colorful, Lower East Side hot-spot, known for its neon pink lights, lush palms, good luck charms, pale-pink painted brick walls and of course, its great food.

Jason greeted guests from behind the bar, shaking up signature cocktails like the "Bee My Honey" and a FIJI shaved-ice cocktail named the "Pink Palace." Newspaper lined bowls of curried popcorn were passed as the room quickly filled with introductions, stories, photos and lots of laughs.

Jason created a clever GREY newspaper complete with horoscopes, classifieds, advertisements, crossword puzzles and summer recipes, which doubled as both an invitation and a placemat. It was a steamy, summer night in New York and guests found personalized paper fans waiting for them at their seats. Jason addressed his guests before the first course, "I couldn't bear the thought of hosting just another boring fashion dinner. I wanted to create an intimate environment where my friends can actually have fun and enjoy unique cuisine. Tonight we celebrate the moments like this, which inspired me to design GREY." The wine flowed freely and plates of Khao Soi curry of chicken with egg noodles, coconut braised short ribs and spicy papaya salad (recipe below!) were enjoyed while a few Polaroid cameras were passed around for in-real-life selfies. Dessert was a tasty, tapioca pudding topped with graham crackers and toasted marshmallows and a rum cocktail served in a personalized coconut with #GREYLaVie appropriately inscribed on the outside.

Model Alexandra Elizabeth recounted, “When Jason entertains he does a great job of adding personal touches, like the personalized fans, newpaper invites and coconut cocktails served by Jason that kept us cool throughout the night. The fans were my favorite -- so simple but so clever and fun!” The Dinner Series gives us the opportunity to celebrate and share the "dinner-with-friends" vibe that inspires GREY Jason Wu. GREY girls laughing, eating, sharing stories and making new friends is what #GREYLaVie is all about. Share your #GREYLaVie moments with us on Instagram at @greyjasonwu.
